Written and directed by Sahil Sangha, tuned by Salim Sulaiman and with lyrical inputs by Javed Akhtar, the film takes us into the baffling core of modern relationships.

For instance, Jai (Zayed Khan) and Naina (Dia Mirza) are almost "settled" in their life but missing something or someone who will complete them. Jai feels that magic and serendipity have passed him by. Naina has taught herself that a less than fulfilling life is enough for her. But is it?

Govind (Cyrus Sahukar) has a colourful past and is on his way to another major, seemingly all wrong relationship. But what if this 'mistake' is the love he has been looking for all his life?

Sheila (Tisca Chopra) has stayed single for a long time waiting for Mr. Perfect. When he does appear, will she take her chance at love, look beyond the odds that divide to see what binds them in a perfect whole?

Ritu (Umang Jain) lives on breakups and ice cream. Will she ever find a man, and share a beginning and not just a closure?

Arjun (Satyadeep Misra) and Gayatri (Auritra Ghosh) are the perfect couple on the brink of a dream wedding. Will their love inspire the others to listen to their heart?

Dhruv (Vaibhav Talwar) and Radhika (Pallavi Sharda) are driven workaholics ignoring the small text of their lives. Will they wake up to see what they have missed in their desire for everything?

EXPECTATIONS

Honestly, one's expectations are in check before playing on the music of Love Breakups Zindagi. After all, the movie hasn't been hyped for its music during its making and other than Dia Mirza and Zayed Khan, there are no other major names involved. Yes, Salim-Sulaiman have time and again delivered well due to which the least one can expect is a decent music at the least. Also with Javed Akhtar as the lyricist, there is further credibility added to the album. However, instead of going over board, one still waits to check out the four songs that follow.

MUSIC

The first thing that strikes about 'Rozaana' is the classy treatment that has been meted out by Salim-Sulaiman and Javed Akhtar. The kind of number that one associates with a big film coming from the likes of a Yash Chopra or a Karan Johar, 'Rozaana' is about the protagonist being elated with what life has to offer and live it every day with a big smile on the face. A positive number which is sung even enthusiastically by Salim Merchant, 'Rozaana' (which also arrives in a 'remix version') is a big winner all the way. While one waits to see it rise in popularity in days to come, one can be sure that this is one song that has in it to enjoy a long shelf life.

Salim Merchant continues the show by starting 'Rab Rakha' before Sonu Nigam takes over. This time around Love Breakups Zindagi moves on to celebration mode though with a difference. This means that despite a 'shaadi byaah' setting here, the song doesn't enter into the 'bhangra' zone and instead keeps it all sublime and romantic while ensuring that the lively mood of the album stays on to be intact. Sonu Nigam is excellent yet again as he renders 'Rab Rakha' with all his heart in while Shreya Ghoshal and Shradha Pandit add on good support to make it yet another classy track. And yes, the Yash Raj influence stays.

By this time one's expectations has only soared further and there is good hope that the next song to follow, 'Love Love Love', would continue the feel good mood of Love Breakups Zindagi. This is exactly what one gets as 'Love Love Love' (the song which plays in the background of the film's promos) turns out to be a peppy-n-lively track which adds on to the youthful flavour of the album. Benny Dayal and Shradha Pandit do well to make 'Love Love Love' as almost an anthem of this film and one strongly feels that this song would appear at various junctures in the film's narrative.

With fingers crossed and expecting that the entire album turns out to be a complete package experience, one plays on 'Chayee Hai Tanhayee', the last song of the album. Thankfully for the listener, this is what happens with Shafqat Amanat Ali doing quite well in this sad song which is entertaining nonetheless. A song about separation and the pain in heart that follows, 'Chayee Hai Tanhayee' has a 'sufi' flavour to it with the kind of beats that first became popular with 'Kehna Hi Kya' [Bombay]. However, the song is not just about Shafqat as Salim Merchant and Shruti Pathak make an extended appearance as well while ensuring that the song continues to flow smoothly.

OVERALL

This is turning out to be one real good season when it comes to romantic/feel good music being churned out in Bollywood. Mausam, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Hum Tum Shabana and now Love Breakups Zindagi - there is a lot in store for those who swear by quintessential Bollywood scores. Go for this one, it will pleasantly surprise you.
